8 Communication terms

This glossary can help you prepare for the IELTS writing tasks related to the Problems during communication.

appropriate
adjective
Suitable or proper in the circumstances.
Example: Two weeks ago I ordered a cheque book by filling out the appropriate form when I visited the bank.
complain
verb
Express dissatisfaction or annoyance about something.
Example: I am writing to complain about the service that I have received at your bank.
correspondence
noun
Communication by exchanging letters.
Example: I have received no other correspondence from the bank.
customer
noun
A person who buys goods or services from a shop or business.
Example: I have been a customer of your bank now for fifteen years.
disappointing
adjective
Failing to fulfil someone's hopes or expectations.
Example: It is very disappointing.
receive
verb
Be given, presented with, or paid (something).
Example: I am writing to complain about the service that I have received at your bank.
service
noun
The action of helping or doing work for someone.
Example: I would also like to know what action you are going to take regarding this bad service.
urgent
adjective
Requiring immediate action or attention.
Example: It is quite urgent for me.
